How NoteGate fits alongside ShiftCare, Lumary and Brevity
Short answer: NoteGate does not replace ShiftCare, Lumary or Brevity. Keep the platform for rostering, billing, claiming and payroll, and add NoteGate to check shift notes, incident reports and care plans before they are saved, and to link them into one evidence chain for audit. NoteGate runs standalone today, so workers write notes in NoteGate. Connectors to these platforms are in development and none is live.
Key takeaways
- NoteGate is a documentation compliance layer. It does not roster, bill, claim or pay, so it sits beside a care management platform, not in place of one.
- ShiftCare, Lumary and Brevity each run the operation. Their public pages describe notes, goals and incident tools; none of the three publishes a feature that blocks a below-standard note from being saved.
- There is no live connector between NoteGate and any of the three. Plan the workflow so notes are written once, in NoteGate, and your platform keeps everything else.
- You may not need NoteGate if your notes already pass audits and your supervisors review them promptly.
Disclosure: this page is written by NoteGate, so we have an interest in the outcome. Every statement about ShiftCare, Lumary and Brevity comes from their own public pages, linked in Sources. Where we found nothing published, we say “no public documentation found”, not “no”. ShiftCare and Brevity were checked on 9 October 2026 and Lumary on 10 October 2026. If anything is out of date, email info@notegate.com.au and we will correct it.
Does NoteGate replace ShiftCare, Lumary or Brevity?
No. NoteGate does not roster, bill, claim or run payroll, which are the core of all three platforms. It checks the content of the records those platforms store, and links them into an evidence chain for audit. This page explains how the two fit together. For the case for adding a layer at all, read why documentation still fails audits when you already have care software.
Who does what when you run both?
| Job | Your platform (ShiftCare, Lumary or Brevity) | NoteGate |
|---|---|---|
| Rostering and scheduling | Yes | No |
| Billing, claiming and payroll | Yes | No |
| Participant administration | Yes | No |
| Checking a shift note against the participant’s plan before it is saved | Varies by platform; see below | Yes. A note below standard cannot be saved |
| Incident record with reportability triage and notification log | Incident tools, varying by platform | Yes, linked to the shift notes around the event |
| Care plan checked against the Practice Standards | Care plan storage, varying by platform | Yes, with a gap report for a person to review |
| One evidence chain per participant and an audit pack on demand | Records sit on the participant | Notes, incidents, risks and reviews linked, with an audit pack for any period up to twelve months |
What does each platform say publicly about notes and compliance?
ShiftCare
ShiftCare is a care management platform for NDIS, aged care and home care providers. Its public pages describe a note coach that compares a saved note with the participant’s care plan and asks about supports the note left out, and Care Signals, which flags empty template sections, short notes and boilerplate for admins. ShiftCare states the coach is advisory and does not block a note. A setting can require a note before a shift is closed. Keep it for: rostering, billing, clock-in and note coaching. NoteGate adds: a hard gate on note content and the link from each note to risks, incidents and reviews.
Lumary
Lumary describes itself as an operational system that connects participant management, workforce rostering, billing, compliance and financial reporting, built on Salesforce, for disability, aged care and allied health providers. Its disability page describes structured progress notes tied to support goals, incident reporting workflows for mandatory timeframes, and reports that map to Practice Standards evidence requirements. We found no public documentation of Lumary checking the content of a note before it is saved. Pricing is not published. Keep it for: the whole operational system, including claiming. NoteGate adds: a check on what each note says before it is saved, and the evidence chain built from validated records.
Brevity
Brevity is an all-in-one platform priced per client, with unlimited staff. Its help pages describe an organisation setting that requires a note before a shift is completed in the mobile app, and its Business plan includes shift notes, client goals and incident management. We found no public documentation of Brevity checking note content against the care plan. Keep it for: one system at a predictable per-client price. NoteGate adds: enforcement of note quality, not only the presence of a note.

How do notes move between NoteGate and my platform today?
They do not move automatically. NoteGate runs standalone today, and connectors to ShiftCare, Lumary, Brevity and other platforms are in development. None is available, so nothing described here depends on one. See integration status.
- Workers write shift notes in NoteGate. Each note is checked before it is saved, and weak notes return to the worker with specific corrections.
- Your platform keeps rostering, billing, claiming and payroll. Nothing about your operational workflow changes.
- Decide where each record lives, and write it once. If your platform also requires a note for a shift to close, agree a rule with your team so the same note is not typed twice.
- Pull the audit pack from NoteGate. It is assembled from accepted records, with participants and workers shown as reference codes.
Workers write their own notes. NoteGate never writes shift notes or incident reports, and it supports documentation governance without determining whether a provider is compliant.
When is your current platform enough?
You may not need NoteGate if your notes already pass audits, your supervisors read every note and give feedback within the week, and your platform’s note tools catch what auditors would. Test that against five recent participant files using the self-test in our hub guide. NoteGate is worth adding when the same note-quality findings keep recurring, when you run SIL or higher-risk supports, or when assembling evidence before an audit takes days.
Pricing for NoteGate is per participant with unlimited workers, shown as the all-in monthly total in AUD including GST on the pricing page. Growth plans and above include a 14-day trial.
Frequently asked questions
Does NoteGate replace ShiftCare, Lumary or Brevity?
No. NoteGate does not roster, bill, claim or run payroll. It runs alongside your platform and checks the content of notes, incidents and care plans before they are saved.
Does NoteGate integrate with ShiftCare, Lumary or Brevity?
Not yet. NoteGate runs standalone today and connectors are in development. None is available, so workers write notes in NoteGate and your platform keeps rostering, billing and claiming.
Do ShiftCare, Lumary or Brevity block a poor shift note?
On their public pages, ShiftCare states its note coach does not block a note, and Brevity can require a note before a shift closes. We found no public documentation of Lumary or Brevity checking note content before saving. Confirm current features with each vendor.
Will my workers have to enter notes twice?
They should not. Agree one place for each record. If your platform requires a note to close a shift, set a rule with your team, because there is no automatic transfer yet.
Does using NoteGate make a provider compliant?
No. NoteGate supports documentation governance. Compliance is assessed by the provider’s approved quality auditor and the NDIS Commission.
